When is the USD 250 Bond Election?

The special bond election will be held on January 18, 2022.

What will the Bond fund?

This Bond will construct, equip and furnish renovations and improvements to the existing 1921 section of Pittsburg Community Middle School, and make all other necessary improvements at an estimated cost of $16,500,000. The renovation will include all 4 floors of the 1921 section of the building.  It will include remodeling existing classrooms to accommodate student growth and expansion of pathway courses by creating 21st century learning spaces, adding a modern science laboratory, adding an elevator for ADA compliance, and renovating the auditorium for school and community use.

Does the Bond impact the entire district?

The only physical building that will see improvements is the middle school but the entire district will see an impact. The improvements made to PCMS will allow elementary curriculums to increase early introduction of STEM with students. Earlier introduction of STEM allows for students entering the high school to have already completed introductory-level courses, allowing students to work on more advanced skills and potentially receive certifications within their four years of high school.

Why is now the right time for a bond?

As the previous series bonds are being paid off the district can address the deferred maintenance of the middle school and take advantage of historical low interest rates.

How much is the proposed bond?

$16,500,000 — This amount was determined based on building maintenance needs, curriculum changes, and in preparation for future student and pathway growth.

How much will this cost me?

Our projection of the bond and interest mill rate will not increase, this means the bond will not increase taxes for you.

If we pass this bond, will we just have to do another one in a few years?

As our community grows, the district will continue to monitor district needs. There is always the potential need for additional space to support this growth. One of the ways space can be provided is through a bond issue.

How is there no mill increase?

Our debts on all other bond services, except the 2017 bond will come off the tax rolls by 2023. The 2017 Bond comes off in 2037. The 2022 bond will start to be paid in Sept. 2022 and will extend our current bond and interest mill rate of 10 mills through 2045.

What is a Mill?

One mill is one dollar of property tax levied against $1,000 of assessed valuation. For more information on mill levies you can visit ksde.org.

What is a school bond issue?

A school bond issue is used by a public school district to fund capital improvement projects. These measures are placed on the ballot by school boards to be considered by the voting public.

I don’t have a child at USD 250, Why should I vote?

Even if you don't have a child attending USD 250, your property taxes help fund school bonds.

Young people are our future workforce, homeowners and taxpayers. Their education prepares them for the next step into adulthood, and the stronger their foundation the better their outcomes.

The 2022 bond will also create spaces that can be used by the community.

Can I talk to someone about the bond?

Sure! You can attend one of our Community Conversations or contact us at the Bevan Education Center.
